Dean Kirby, noted for his engine repair skills, set up his first service station in Green Hills in 1955.
He established his business as a great combination of automotive expertise and personalized customer service. In 1980, Dean moved his operation to Hillsboro Road in Franklin, where it currently resides. Kirby’s Texaco was a great place for Dean’s son Mitch to learn about working on cars. By watching and helping the mechanics, Mitch’s expertise and love for cars was born. By the time he turned 13, Dean had heard enough of Mitch’s pleading and finally allowed him to stop pumping gas and start turning wrenches.
Mitch has worked at the station since then (with a little time off to get an education) and declares it “The Greatest Job In The World!” Dean retired in 1998, and Mitch has been running the business ever since.
As the times have changed, Kirby’s Garage has changed along with them. But in 50 years, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: Mitch’s belief, (instilled by his father), the customer comes first.
This is why the store in Franklin is open six days a week, and why you can find Mitch there, working on cars or chatting with customers.

Dear Mr. Kirby, I just wanted to take a minute and tell you what a great job your manager, Byron and your employees did repairing my car recently. I had a doctors appointment and went out to start my car and the battery was dead. I called and talked to Kayla and she took down my information. To my surprise, within 15 minutes Byron was knocking on my door. He jump started my car and I drove to your garage, where your employees replaced my battery and had me going in no time. (I was even on time for my doctors appointment.)
